During the felicitation ceremony, BALCO proudly acknowledged the invaluable contributions of its cleanliness support and housekeeping staff to show gratitude to those responsible for maintaining a clean and pristine environment. The company identified dedicated staff members, including employees and business partners, and honored them as “Swachhta Yoddhas” or “cleanliness warriors” for their unwavering commitment to preserving cleanliness and fostering a healthy atmosphere within and around the BALCO plant. Over 30 individuals from the support staff were felicitated by the company.
BALCO also organized a Swachhta Rally within communities, with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of cleanliness and promoting a hygienic living environment. This rally received enthusiastic support from over 200 community members who rallied and participated in Swachhta Pakhwada. Notably, these participants also contributed to the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon and supported the cause ‘Run for Zero Hunger’ – a movement that translates every kilometer run into the number of meals for children in Nand Ghars, which are the modernized anganwadis supported by Vedanta.
Talking about this initiative, Mr. Rajesh Kumar, CEO and Director, BALCO, said, “At BALCO, we believe in the transformative power of cleanliness, recognizing its profound influence on our environment and our collective well-being. Our unwavering commitment during Swachhta Pakhwada is a resounding testament to our dedication towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future. Through our interventions, we aim to facilitate a positive transformation at both the personal and societal levels, nurturing a better future for all.”
Cleanliness is of paramount importance in BALCO’s work culture. The company meticulously adheres to the 5S methodology, which encompasses guidelines for ‘Sort,’ ‘Set in order,’ ‘Shine,’ ‘Standardize,’ and ‘Sustain,’ aiming at optimizing organization for efficiency and effectiveness. Cleanliness plays a vital role in this framework, describing it as necessary for workplace safety and efficiency. Employees at BALCO undergo sensitization, training, and continuous monitoring to maintain the cleanliness of their workspaces, ensuring a safe, clean, and efficient environment for all.
