BALCO Conducts Mega Blood Donation Drive to Strengthen District Blood Bank Resources

12th December 2025

Over 220 units of blood collected through employee and community participation
Balconagar, 12th December 2025: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), India’s iconic aluminium producer and a unit of Vedanta Aluminium, organized a mega blood donation drive at BALCO Hospital in collaboration with the District Medical & Health Department, Korba. The initiative saw enthusiastic participation from employees, their families, and residents from nearby communities. With over 220 individuals, the camp contributed an equivalent number of blood units, significantly strengthening the blood bank reserves in Korba district.

The day-long drive aimed to support critical medical needs of the region like thalassemia, sickle cell disease, cancer, road accidents, maternal health complications, and bleeding disorders such as haemophilia. Additionally, the camp also fostered awareness on voluntary blood donation and the health benefits of regular blood donation. After comprehensive screening, all collected units shall be stored at the blood bank of Government Medical College, Korba, and will be made available free of cost to patients in need.

Highlighting the company’s commitment to community health, Rajesh Kumar, CEO & Director, BALCO, said, “Ensuring access to essential healthcare remains central to our community development efforts. At BALCO, we believe that health and well-being are foundational to progress, and initiatives like this reflect a shared responsibility between industry and society. The strong participation we witnessed shows how collective action can strengthen emergency preparedness and help meet the needs of vulnerable patients across the district.”

Acknowledging BALCO’s coordinated efforts, Dr. Ravikant Singh Rathore, Nodal Officer District AIDS Control Program, Blood Banking and Diagnostic Services, Korba, stated, “Voluntary blood donation plays a vital role in maintaining adequate reserves for emergency and chronic illnesses like sickling, thalassemia etc. BALCO’s initiative has mobilized a large number of donors, and we deeply appreciate this collective effort. Each unit donated today will serve as a lifeline for patients who rely on timely blood support.”
