BALCO culminates month-long celebration of World Quality Month

Balconagar; 25th November, 2022: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), India’s iconic aluminium producer and a subsidiary of Vedanta Aluminium observed World Quality Month across its operations through several awareness-building activities for its employees, business partners and community members. The activities aimed at enhancing their awareness on the importance of quality and enabling them to become an active contributor in building a sustainable quality culture.

The World Quality Month is an annual occasion during which organizations globally reaffirm a quality-first approach to their processes, while also recognizing ongoing efforts to adhere to this objective. Based on this year’s theme ‘Quality Conscience: Doing the Right Thing’, BALCO organized a variety of initiatives such as Nukkad Natak, slogan writing, poster making, photography, poem writing contests and conducting rallies at the factory shop floor to ensure ground-level implementation of best quality practices. Apart from this, the month-long quality awareness campaign also extended to school students, in order to share with them the importance of ensuring quality in every field and the ways to achieve it.

Speaking about BALCO’s commitment towards maintaining quality across its operations, Mr. Abhijit Pati, CEO & Director, BALCO, said, “Quality is an important aspect of everything we do, and is the driving force of our journey to operational excellence. We at BALCO strive to improve the quality of our processes and our products by consistently enabling our workforce to implement quality practices at benchmark levels. Through our excellence-driven endeavors, we aim to further enhance our capability to create industry-best products.”

As a result of BALCO’s consistent efforts to build operational excellence, BALCO has received the BIS license (Bureau of Indian Standards – Government of India) for seven products namely Rolled Products (Sheet, Plate-Conductors & Plate-General Engineering), Wire Rod, Alloy Ingot, EC Ingot and Primary Ingot. Committed to deliver value to its customers, BALCO has also developed an inhouse cold PoDFA sampling and testing facility. Porous Disk Filtration Apparatus (PoDFA) is a technology to identify the type of inclusion (a body or particle of distinct composition embedded in metal) present in the molten melt, so that targeted efforts can be undertaken to improve quality of finished products by eliminating inclusions.

Testifying to the organization’s dedicated efforts towards quality enhancement, BALCO has displayed exemplary performance at different chapter conventions on quality concepts in the year 2022, with 29 teams from the company taking part in different conventions. Overall, 8 teams bagged the Super Gold Award, 17 teams were conferred the Gold award, and 4 teams received the Silver award . Apart from this, BALCO also bagged top recognitions in Knowledge Tests and Best Page Setting Award at different chapter conventions.
