Every Plant will become a Memory and a Green Heritage: CEO R. K. Singh

5th June 2026

Balconagar, 5 June 2026: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), a unit of Vedanta Aluminium, launched Smriti Udyan, a unique initiative dedicated to celebrating cherished memories while contributing to biodiversity, environmental conservation, and community well-being at Balconagar. The initiative was inaugurated by Mr. R.K. Singh, CEO & Director, BALCO, along with over 100 participants who planted Amaltas saplings as part of the programme.

Smriti Udyan is more than a plantation initiative, it is a space where every sapling is dedicated to loved ones who have enriched lives through their love, guidance, and inspiration. Each tree planted under the initiative will grow into a living legacy, contributing to cleaner air, biodiversity, environmental sustainability, and a greener future for generations to come.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. R.K. Singh, CEO & Director, BALCO, said, “BALCO and Smriti Udyan have celebrated the memories of loved ones through sapling plantation. Each Amaltas sapling planted today carries a personal story and will grow as a living tribute over time. As residents, it is our responsibility to ensure that our habitats are green and healthy, and initiatives such as this not only help keep memories afresh but also inculcate the practice of plantation.”

Smriti Udyan has been envisioned as a long-term initiative that will continue to connect people, memories, and nature for years to come. Going forward, employees, their families and union leaders will be able to plant saplings here to commemorate significant milestones such as birthdays, wedding anniversaries, personal achievements, or in memory of loved ones. Over time, the garden will evolve into a vibrant landscape of stories, memories, and trees.

Amaltas saplings, known for their medicinal value and striking golden-yellow blossoms, have been planted as part of the initiative. In the coming years, these trees will further enhance the beauty of the township while supporting biodiversity by attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies. The species is also recognised for its contribution to ecological sustainability and climate resilience.

As part of its broader commitment to environmental stewardship, BALCO has planted nearly 4,000 saplings across various green spaces within the township over the past three months, including 2,000 Bougainvillea and 2,000 Pennsylvania plants. These efforts have strengthened the township’s green cover and enhanced its natural landscape. Balconagar is already home to several green spaces, including the Forest Walkway and Nehru Garden. Together, these plantation initiatives contribute to biodiversity conservation, environmental sustainability, and community engagement, reinforcing BALCO’s commitment to building a greener and more sustainable future.
