Lakhan Lal Dewangan Lays Foundation Stone for Drain Construction from BALCO Cooling Tower to Risda Bridge

25th May 2026

Balconagar, May 25, 2026: The foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of a roadside drainage system in the Shantinagar area took place today, by Shri Lakhan Lal Dewangan, the Hon’ble Commerce and Industry, Public Sector Undertaking, Labour, Commercial Taxes (Excise) Minister, Chhattisgarh Government. Present on the occasion was Smt. Sanju Devi Rajput, Mayor, Korba, marking a significant step towards strengthening civic infrastructure and addressing the longstanding issue of waterlogging in the region.

The drainage project will span approximately 2.9 kilometres, extending from the BALCO cooling tower to Risda Bridge. The project, with an estimated cost of ₹5 crore, is being jointly supported through ₹2.5 crore from the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) and ₹2.5 crore from BALCO’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund. Construction work is expected to commence following the completion of the tendering process.

Upon completion, the project is expected to provide a long-term solution to waterlogging in the Shantinagar area, ensuring improved mobility for residents and reducing inconvenience during the monsoon season. Public representatives and officials present at the event highlighted the project as an important intervention towards enhancing civic amenities and improving the quality of life of local communities.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rajesh Kumar Singh, CEO, BALCO, said, “The construction of the drainage pipeline, undertaken in collaboration with the district administration, reflects BALCO’s continued commitment towards strengthening community infrastructure, improving living conditions, and enabling long-term development. Our comprehensive engagements with the community have helped us reach over 1.8 lakh lives in FY’26. We thank our communities for reposing their trust in the work we do, which has enabled positive outcomes.”

The continued partnership between the district administration and BALCO has accelerated infrastructure development across the Korba region. Following recent initiatives such as the upgradation of the Bajrang Chowk to Risda Bridge (Parsabhatha Road), bridge repairs, and modern road development, the drain construction project further strengthens regional infrastructure. Through sustained interventions across education, healthcare, infrastructure, and livelihood enhancement, BALCO continues to contribute towards improving the quality of life of surrounding communities and fostering inclusive regional development.
