Project Unnati: Promoting Sustainable, Women Run SHGs for their Socio-economic Development and Empowerment

Women empowerment is about nurturing their self-worth, empowering them to make their own choices, and providing them with the tools to drive socio-economic change for themselves and their communities. With this vision in mind, Project Unnati was launched to empower and mobilize women into Self-Help Groups (SHGs), building their capacities and entrepreneurial skills. During FY’25, we worked with 535 SHGs, engaging 5,800 women members. Through regular meetings, bank linkages, and connecting them to government schemes, we are strengthening these SHGs and creating valuable entrepreneurial opportunities.

Economic Empowerment

We economically engaged 2110 women through micro-enterprises, nano-enterprises and various rounds of capacity building trainings on SHG functioning, financial and entrepreneurship development, and legal rights. Our efforts are aimed at providing these women with the skills and opportunities they need to thrive.

Micro-enterprise Units and Entrepreneurship Promotion

We established 7 Microenterprise units including UnaTex (Textile), Dekoratti (Art & Craft), Chhattisa (Food items), UnaTea (Tea Unit), Cleanaila (Cleaning Products), UnNaree (Sanitary Pads), and a Mushroom Unit. Some of these products are even listed on online marketplaces like IndiaMART, Amazon, Flipkart, and more. In FY’24 over 1400 women were trained under these units. Additionally, exposure visits have been organised, providing women with valuable insights into product development, sales, and marketing strategies, thereby honing their entrepreneurial acumen.

Supporting Nano-enterprises

We supported 81 nano-enterprises run by SHG women, including businesses such as tiffin services, cosmetic sales, and stitching businesses. These small-scale enterprises provide women with an additional source of income, fostering entrepreneurship and contributing to financial independence.

Celebrating Women’s Empowerment

On International Women’s Day, we celebrate “Unnati Utsav” with community women, adolescent girls, and employees. The event features stalls showcasing entrepreneurial skills, with women linked to various micro & nano-enterprises. During the celebration, we recognize community members who make significant contributions to entrepreneurship, social change, and community leadership, benefiting all.

This initiative is currently being run in partnership with GPR Strategies & Solutions (GPRSS).
