Sustainability at Balco aligns with group’s strategy based on four pillars:
- Responsible stewardship
- Building strong relationship
- Adding and sharing value
- Strategic communications
Through this strategy, we are dedicated to meeting our sustainable development challenges. We have a well-defined sustainable development framework that comprises of governance structures and policies, that act as pillars and supports our sustainable development endeavor.
We have dedicated organization structure internally to drive it to realize our goal of zero harm, zero waste, zero discharge and making difference in communities around us.
Social Development is integral to long-term success of any business. At BALCO, we believe that today’s organizations need to be all the time more wary of the impact that their operations have on society at large, and this requires much more than isolated measures. Going beyond the domain of metal production, BALCO lays heavy emphasis on maintaining cordial relationship with its neighbouring communities. With the intention to ensure that the projects/ programs are designed as per the community needs, BALCO established a separate department known as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), led by qualified and experienced professionals in the year 2005. In a climate of heightened social awareness and instant access to information, CSR is a fundamental part of BALCO’s targeted practices, broad objectives, and overall culture.
At BALCO, we strongly believe in community led local level planning. The social development strategy adopted by BALCO is based on the need assessment of the Rural Community. The Strategy adopted can be pictorially depicted as follows:
BALCO considers forging collaborations with other agencies for wider outreach and deeper impact. This is why, BALCO CSR Department engages experienced NGOs for implementing various projects.
