Empowering Children and Mothers Towards a Brighter Future
Nandghars, a network of modern, renovated Anganwadis, provides comprehensive development opportunities through a focus on early childhood education, nutrition initiatives, healthcare services, and women empowerment activities. This initiative, a collaboration between Vedanta and the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD), is transforming the landscape of pre-school education in India.
At the heart of the Nand Ghar model is digital early childhood education, where a world-class curriculum is delivered through interactive methods like BALA (Building as Learning Aid) paintings and digital learning tools. This approach fosters cognitive development and significantly improves the quality of pre-primary education for children. Additionally, the nutrition initiatives ensure that children receive the necessary nourishment for healthy growth, contributing to better overall physical and cognitive development.
The Nand Ghars are utilised effectively in the second half to engage women beneficiaries, facilitating skill training and scheme linkage activities, while also providing access to income generating avenues such as job work, placements, market linkage, etc. With an aim to generate livelihood and ensure financial independence for women, Nand Ghar is providing ample women empowerment opportunities. By empowering women and providing avenues for financial independence, Nand Ghar is helping to break the cycle of poverty and create lasting, positive change in the community.
As of this year, 33 Nand Ghars in the districts of Korba and Kawardha in Chhattisgarh have directly impacted 4000 children and mothers. These Anganwadis have made significant strides in improving school readiness, attendance, and learning outcomes for children while also offering valuable opportunities for women to gain skills and improve their livelihoods.
The project is executed in partnership with the Social Revival Group of Urban Rural and Tribal (SROUT).

Message from the Chairman
Through our flagship project, Nand Ghar, we are committed to fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of eradicating child malnutrition, providing education and healthcare, and empowering rural women through skill development. I have no doubt in my mind that Nand Ghar will continue to create a better tomorrow for the mother and the child at the grassroots level.

Unlocking Opportunities for a Brighter Future
Education is a powerful weapon in today’s world that enables individuals to contribute to society, pursue their dreams and create a better world. Taking this into action Project Connect was initiated in 2016. Project connect as the name suggests intended to connect students with education subsequently connecting our employees with the communities through employee volunteerism accordingly aligning with BALCO’s core values.
The disproportionate ratio of students and teachers lead to a lack of understanding at the foundation level making it difficult for students to understand subjects like Science, English, Mathematics and Accountancy (SEMA). In FY’25, we supported 2550 students from grades 6th -12th through regular classes in government schools and remedial centres, to enhance Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (6th-8th) and need based classes for 9th to 12th grades in subjects like Science, English, Mathematics and Accountancy. Project connect focuses on these subjects for government school students from grade 9-12, reducing the rate at which students withdraw from schools.
We enriched practical learning through Science Exhibitions, Summer Camps to develop extracurricular skills, and Winter Camps focused on board exam preparation. We also created worksheets to support self-assessment and encourage independent learning.
Career Counselling sessions helped students make informed academic and career choices, guiding them towards a successful future. Additionally, we organized capacity-building workshops for government teachers, focusing on modern teaching methodologies and practical, student-centred models to enhance teaching effectiveness. Our Community Connect initiatives engaged parents, teachers, and PRI members to successfully re-enrol dropout children, while also distributing learning materials to dropout youth, reigniting their interest in education. Through Shiksha Sahayogi, our employee volunteering initiative, employees provided financial support for the re-enrolment of these children.
This project is implemented in partnership with Vidya Bhawan Society.
